I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge and passions with others, especially with our youth. They are future after all.
If you need advice or assistance in putting together environmental education programs and/or outdoor experience activities in Douglas County, Nevada or any of its neighboring Nevada or California counties, please feel free to contact me at info@ztrout.org for advice and, depending on my availability, assistance.
I work closely with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) and its partners, including the RiverWranglers and The Nature Conservancy's River Fork Ranch, to develop and put on various youth programs.
The Carson Valley Trout in the Classroom program is known to be one of the best in Nevada. Not only do we great release days, we also have great in class programs.
If you are a teacher interested in having this program in your classroom, please contact me at info@ztrout.org. The program is open to classrooms in Douglas County, Nevada as well as rural portions of surrounding Nevada and California counties.

As most classrooms around here have 25+ students in them, we typically setup a program with one short (20-30m) activity program for all students together and then split the class into smaller groups to do two-to-three mini (15-20m) activities.
Short activity (20-30 minutes) for small or large groups (up to 30 students)
Trout Bingo - a vocabulary exercise. Typically provided in the classroom. Developed by the River Wranglers.
Mini-activities (15-20 minutes) for small groups (up to 12 students) can be provided in the classroom or in the field:
Aquatic Macro-Invertebrates (aka River Bugs) - teaches what bugs can be found in local waters and how to identify them. Developed by NDOW.
Fishing Knots - teaches how to tie knots commonly used in fly fishing.
Mock Fly Tying - teaches what fish eat.
Furs and Skulls - teaches students about mammals they might see in our area. Developed by NDOW.
Mini outdoor activities (15-20 minutes) for small groups (up to 12 students) must be provided in the field:
Backyard Bass - spincasting to faux bass (on a lawn). Developed by NDOW.
Lawn Trout- fly casting to faux trout (on a lawn)
Extended programs, such as convential fishing, fly fishing, fly tying, can be arranged as well (typically in partnership with NDOW). As these programs typically require more volunteers, they must be planned well in advanced.
